CHEER FOR THE STARS AT THE WASHINGTON, DC FILM SOCIETY 15TH ANNUAL PARTY FOR THE ACADEMY AWARDS: “AND THE WINNER IS...!”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Join the Washington, DC Film Society as we sit on pins and needles at our 15th Annual Party FUN-raiser, “And the Winner Is…!” Cheer the stars with Film Society fans on Oscars Night! The fun starts Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Arlington Cinema ‘N’ Drafthouse (2903 Columbia Pike, Arlington, VA). Doors open at 6:30 pm; the pre-Oscar show begins at 7:00 pm and the Academy Awards show starts at 8:00 pm.

Local film critics Joe Barber and Bill Henry will be our hosts. Watch the 79th Academy Awards broadcast with Ellen DeGeneres as host(ess) LIVE ON THE BIG screen at the Cinema ‘N’ Drafthouse. Who’ll take home the statuette for Leading Actor: veteran actor Peter O’Toole, first-time nominee Forest Whitaker or Will Smith? Film Society attendees enjoy the casual comfort of an Art-Deco theatre with affordable food and drink, fun film promotional items, fabulous door prizes, a “Predict the Winners” contest, other trivia contests, and our highly-touted Silent Auction!

Silent Auction items (cash/check only) include local restaurant gift certificates, autographed movie posters and DVDs well as movie, comedy club and theatre tickets. Tickets are $20; purchase at the door beginning at 6:30 p.m. (cash/check only) or in advance by mailing a check to the Washington, DC Film Society, Attn: Oscar Tickets, P.O. Film Society members had access to advance screenings of the following Academy Award-nominated movies during 2006: Pan’s Labyrinth, The Pursuit of Happyness, Dreamgirls, Little Miss Sunshine, The Departed, The Last King of Scotland, Babel, The Prestige, An Inconvenient Truth, The Good Shepherd, The Illusionist, The Queen, Letters from Iwo Jima, Volvér, Notes on a Scandal, The Devil Wears Prada, and Flags of Our Fathers.

The Washington, DC Film Society is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization with more than 1000 members dedicated to an appreciation of quality mainstream, international, and independent films. Our mission is to provide our members, as well as the Washington, DC community, opportunities to enjoy these films and to participate in meaningful discussion of the culture of film. We also actively support local, independent film and disseminate information about local and national film organizations' activities of interest to our membership through our website and newsletter. All proceeds from membership and revenues from fundraising activities support the work of the Film Society and its parent organization, Filmfest DC, the Washington, DC International Film Festival. The Film Society was created in 1991 by enthusiastic Filmfest DC staff and volunteers.
