Janeane Garofalo at the Drafthouse Comedy Theater Share on Facebook Share on Twitter

As a precocious child who used to sneak into her older brother's bedroom to listen to his comedy albums of George Carlin and Cheech and Chong, Janeane Garofalo nurtured a dream of someday moving to New York City and writing jokes for David Letterman; but it was an open mike performance at a local comedy club during her junior year of college in Providence, Rhode Island that actually launched the career of one the most uniquely successful female comedians and actresses of the past decade.

Fans have come to know and love her smartly cynical style and understated delivery as a comic performer, and her accomplishments as an actress, comedienne and political activist soundly belie her diminutive physical stature. Despite winning numerous awards and recognition as a standup comic, it was her performance as the only female ensemble member on the short-lived Ben Stiller Show in 1992 that vaulted her to mainstream success and a host of subsequent television and film credits.

More recently, she has been known as a political advocate for many liberal causes in the country, as well as a leading voice of dissent to the war in Iraq. Since March 31, 2004, she has cohosted her own political talk show on the AirAmerica radio network.

These works are dedicated to the perpetuation of her legacy as a counterculture heroine whose blatant insecurities are just as appealing as her piquant wit and her relentless pluck.
