The Bicycling Comedian
The Bicycling Comedian
Tom Snyders, “The Bicycling Comedian,” has spent the past 25 years pedaling his fully-loaded touring bicycle to all his stand-up comedy performances. He’s cycled more than 162,000 miles, to and throughout, all 50 states (Hawaii was not easy), and in 34 countries on six continents. This summer and fall on his never-ending Smile America bicycle tour he is offering to do benefit shows for worthy bicycle-related advocacy and nonprofit groups along his route. “I took one look at the Phoenix Bikes website and told Executive Director Henry Dunbar that I really respected the impact they have been making on local Arlington Youths, and that his organization was exactly the kind of thing I would be proud to help support,” Snyders says.
Snyders specialty are his photos of funny road signs he encounters on the back roads of America -- the very best of which are featured in his live performances, including a section of “Signs you don’t like to see when on the road by bicycle!” In 2004 National Lampoon licensed 208 of his photos for “National Lampoon’s Big Book of True Facts.”
Snyders has performed in more than 200 comedy clubs across the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia He has made ten national television appearances, including “Live with Regis & Kelly,” “Good Morning America,” and has been featured on ESPN and Comedy Central. Snyders’ journey and his “Smile America Bicycle Comedy Tour” began June 20, 1987, when he left Las Vegas by bicycle. Since then he’s been pedaling the back roads of this country performing at bike events, theaters, colleges, conferences and comedy clubs.
